A Cape Coral HVAC worker was injured Tuesday, October 12, while working at a customer’s home. Apparently, the homeowner had a new air conditioning system installed recently. It wasn’t running properly so they called a repair team out to take a look at it.

The men were stationed inside the garage at a residence on the 1300 block of SE 21st Street in Cape Coral, Florida. One of the men went into the garage to take a look at the unit while his partner went upstairs to look at another part of the house.

The homeowner, Bob Torres, was in the garage talking to the first repairman when they heard a cracking sound from above their heads. The next thing they knew, a person came plunging down through the ceiling. Unfortunately, it was the second repairman. The ceiling had suddenly caved in, and he came crashing to the floor. He managed to fall all the way down to the concrete. The two men who witnessed the incident said he landed on his back when he hit the ground.

Seeing his partner lying on the floor in agony, the first repairman called 911. The paramedics arrived at the scene and found the victim writhing in pain on the floor. They managed to get him into the ambulance so they could take him to the local hospital. There has been no update on the man’s condition at this time. The reports have not released his name as of yet either.

The Cape Coral HVAC worker will likely have a valid workers compensation claim against his employer. Depending on the facts of the case, he may have a separate claim against the homeowner.
