Police and rescue crews were called to the scene of a tragic tree cutting accident in Melbourne, Florida, on Friday October 1. Police arrived at the 500 block of Harland Avenue in Melbourne at about 11:40 am. When they got there, they found a bucket truck belonging to a local tree trimming company. They also found an unidentified man injured inside the bucket and a second man injured on the ground.

Apparently, the older man had been working behind a house along that block cutting trees. For some reason, one of the power lines along the back of the house had fallen and was still a live wire. The worker somehow came into contact with the power line and was electrocuted.

While the man was holding the wire, his son rushed over and tried to help his father. The young man ended up getting electrocuted as well. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. He has been listed as in stable condition. His name has not yet been released.

Sadly, the man working in the bucket truck did not survive his injuries. He was pronounced dead at approximately 11:40 am on Friday.

Florida Power and Light is still investigating the tree cutting accident in Melbourne. They have not indicated what caused the power line to come down. It does not appear that they are taking any responsibility at this time. Several people on Harland Avenue lost power while the utility crew tried to repair the down wire.

If they discover that there was negligence on behalf of the power company, the victim’s family will likely have a legal claim against the company. They may also have a claim against the victims’ employer as well.
